Alien Blues

1. SHAKE THAT THING This dance call opens our album. We recorded this song initially with the L’go Pistooli duo in 2001 for their EP For Boogie Babes & Lover Boys (Kääntö Records KNTCD0101 @ Spotify or iTunes). It is based on the chord sequence of L’go Pistooli tune ”Kotiovi”. However, the approach of this version totally differs from the “blues-electronica” reading of the original EP. Firstly, the playing here is 100% organic with no sampling, loops or drum machines (not that we have anything against them, vice versa). Secondly, we also added funk breaks and a completely new bridge part with Honey B. ad libbing high up.

2. ALIEN BLUES Did you ever try to run errands at a grocery store or in some office in an exotic country where nobody speaks English? This tune may relate to somebody from the outer space or to a refugee. It’s up to you!

3. SHARPSHOOTER We reached a conclusion that the world needs another song with the bee theme. The woman of the song takes whomever she wants, passing the responsibilities on to her army of drones. Talking about emancipation, eh?

4. SUPERMAN The lyrics of this tune were written by our dear friend, the late Gary Primich, who appointed this text to us during our final meeting. He said that he has currently no use for them in his own music, but if we would try to compose them it would be great. You know, in this gauntlet of life people might run into problems. Sometimes you wanna do something – just to be able to make it or just to feel better. But you better be careful.

5. BABY DON’T! How many refusals and denials a relationship will require...

6. FRESH UP THE WELL
This tune was written by Tuomari Nurmio a.k.a. Judge Bone, who originally recorded it in Finnish with his group Korkein Oikeus as “Kahleet”. Aija has been singing it during our stint with Judge as his road band and felt that this song would be a natural choice for the present album. The lyrics were translated into English by Esa. Thanks Judge!

7. MIDNITE
We picked the original idea for this from Little Brother Montgomery’s First Time I Met the Blues. The idea of the Blues as a living, uncontrollable being not unlike Bigfoot or the Ape following you from tree to tree is simply – spooky.

8. EVERYBODY’S CARRYIN’ A GUN
After the emergence of informational warfare during the 1990’s, a question is more and more raised whether the definition of a weapon should be extended to information, for example, and killing and desolation in warfare also to hostile influencing? In this case a gun could be any item or idea that is being used for hostile influencing.

9. MIDNITE PT. 2
This is simply a instrumental jam, played 100% live in the studio.

10. I COULD SEE THE DOOR WAS OPEN
The lyrics were written by our good friend Dr. Helander, a great singer and guitar player by his own right. The text is dreamlike, but encompasses the elements and questions of humanism: Who am I? Where do I come from? Where am I going? We use the 5/4 meter, which in the middle of chorus changes to the 6/4 meter for a while.

11. ANIMAL TRACK
It came from Africa, in the form of drum.
